It’s been a while since I last posted something here. Nearly two years… Well actually, I am quite occupied right now, and while having time to listen to good music, I haven’t shared with you those listenings.
Today, I’m gonna talk about Santigold, who is an artist that i like very much. I was listening a lot to her when her first album Santogold (her former artist name) came out. But I had lost what she was doing after that.
Recently i fell on a youtube video of her performance at tiny desktop concert, which was really nice. I like a lot the concept of those concerts, a tiny band performing softly with a not so big audience. It’s often warm and the artists seem to feel great.

How do you feel this morning? Knowing that some people here are reading this post from the other side of the Atlantic, the question could be : how do you feel? Simply. But nevertheless it’s Sunday here in France. I’m sitting on my sofa with my daughter watching Barbie on the beach movie, thinking what we’re gonna do today.
And, I thought about the Bangles. This old girl band from the eighties is one of my favourite girl band (if you exclude hole). Yes, it’s really dated. Yes, it really sounds from the eighties. But yes, it is still some great songs. My favourite must be “walk like an Egyptian”. But today I share with you manic Monday.
I do love this song, don’t ask why, I really don’t know. Maybe it’s just the voice of the singer, maybe it’s the melody, maybe… I don’t know.

Ce dimanche, on va se faire une retro/concert. Le 16 mai dernier, avec ma petite femme, nous sommes allés voir le grand Dominique A en concert. Si je compte bien, ça doit être la 3e fois pour moi. Cest toujours un plaisir.
This sunday, we’re gonna go for a retro/ gig. On the may 16th, we’ve seen Dominique A live. it’s been the 3rd time for me. it’s always a great moment.
Pour sa tournée actuelle, Dominique A a opté pour une formule électrique et plutôt pêchue. Avec la sortie d’un album du même acabit. Ce avant un autre album et tournée plus intimiste, où il devrait être en acoustique (seul?).
For this actual tour, the French singer/composer chose an electric and punchy formula. With the current plus in the same mood. this is notable because it Will be followed by an acoustic tour (maybe on his own!)
Le moins que l’on puisse dire pour ce concert, c’est que comme lors de la précédente tournée, en plus d’être électrique, le son est fort. Mais vraiment fort, puissant. Vu qu’on était à la belle électrique, et que les ingénieurs du son sont bons (c’est devenu suffisament rare dans les salles françaises que je me permets de le noter!) Ce n’était pas dérangeant. Le public était bien présent même si on avait de la place dans la fosse. Ce qui est étonnant de prime abord, lorsque l’on connaît la musique du personnage c’est qu’il est plutôt à l’aise et blagueur ! Ceci ajouté qu’avec l’énergie du groupe, le public bougeait bien, nous aussi de fait.
the less we can say is as his lasts gigs furthermore being a very electrical show, the sound was very loud. But truely really loud. As we were at la belle électrique the sound was good. What was surprising too when you know the songs of this guy, is that he was such happy and making jokes ! This added with the band energy, the crowd was moving well, and so do us.
En résumé, c’était un bon concert, avec de bon zicos. J’ai particulièrement aimé les 2 batteurs, qui alternent entre leurs batteries et un set de pads électroniques. Le son de 2 batteurs bien complémentaires, ça donne un surcroît de pêche non négligeable au groupe en live.
Actually, it was a great show, with good musician’s. I particularly enjoyed the 2 drummers, who were alternately doing some drums and electronic pads. The sound of 2 drummers rather complementary gives a huge energy to the show.
it’s been a long time since I’ve posted in Godzika. Tonight, I can not sleep, so as always in these kind of moments I’m listening to music. Yesterday I fall back on this great band The Cure . I’ve always been a huge fan of them, since I was a teenager, a long time ago nevertheless. Well, I was asking myself what to listen to and it seems obvious that I should listen to Robert Smith. One of the band album I’ve most listened is Disintegration . So I put my headphones on, put the volume higher to hide all the noisy sounds around me, and let the journey begin. What an album, what songs, what voice …

Ce soir, c’est la fête de la musique! Vous savez c’est le soir où on peut entendre de mauvais ou moins mauvais groupes reprendre vos titres préférés. Des fois même, les plus aventuriers reprendront leurs propres morceaux. Mais pour autant ce n’est pas sur que vous les reconnaissiez… Bref, pour la fête de la musique c’est vraiment la fête. Mais je suis négatif, moi même je l’ai faite cette fête de la musique, et c’est le pied en tant que musicien! On se retrouve à jouer un peu n’importe où. devant un bar comme devant un tabac, voir même devant un kebab. Mais dans le dernier cas, vous aurez à apporter vos propres bières, parce que sinon vous risquez de tourner au sprite toute la nuit 🙂 Dans tous les cas, c’est une communion avec les gens. C’est le bordel. Y’en a partout. Si on n’a pas de sono, c’est à celui dont le batteur tapera le plus, et à ceux dont les amplis sont les plus puissants.
Qotsa is back, et c’est pas mal du tout! peut être un peu plus 70s qu’auparavant mais tjs aussi original, avec ce son si caractéristique et ces structures rock n roll bien alambiquées. Josh Homme m’énerve un peu, plus ca va, mieux il chante cet enfoiré. J’en veux encore comme dirait Britney 🤔 mais je m’égare un peu là. Ne nous emballons pas on verra la suite. Bonne écoute les potals!

Josh Homme makes me angry, the more he’s singing the best it sounds that fucker. Gimme more as Britney ‘d say 🤔 but I’m losing myself there. Dans le monde d’aujourd’hui, on se contente de la médiocrité d’un Trump qui décide que le réchauffement climatique, on s’en fout… Aujourd’hui, il y a une très bonne nouvelle cependant. L’une de nos plus grandes fiertés nationales, la chanteuse Camille sort un nouvel opus “Ouï“. Ce disque aurait pu s’appeler “Non” tant Camille avait besoin de se révolter contre un monde qu’elle ne comprend plus. Elle n’est pas la seule!

Now, Trump is on the white house with all his mediocrity, and simply decide that that climate change is not important… But today, there is such a good news nevertheless. One of our national celebrity, the singer “Camille” is back with a new album. That disk could have been called “No” as Camille needed to revolt agaisnt this world she does not understand anymore. She’s not alone!
Ce disque est salué par une grande partie de la presse musicale. Comme toujours dans ce cas là, j’étais sceptique (comme une fosse diront certains!). Mais je viens de l’écouter. Et là alors là… j’ai été étonné. J’ai beaucoup aimé et écouté l’album le fil. Je le trouvais vraiment original et tout simplement très bon. Depuis, j’ai écouté d’une oreille distraite les autres albums de Camille. Non pas qu’ils ne furent pas bons. Non. Mais je les trouvais un peu surfait, un peu surjoué. Le personnage créé par l’artiste est intéressant, mais je trouvais que dans l’écriture et sur les concepts, c’était too much par moment. Mais ça n’engage que moi évidemment.
So, this album has critcally acclaimed by the medias. As always in thos cases, i am sceptical. But i’ve just listened to it, it’s really good and original. So far, i’ve been half listening the lasts LPs from Camille. Not that they were not good, but i found them a little too much. The character conceived by the singer was a little bit too much for me. But it’s my own opinion.
Sur “Ouï“, Camille revient à l’essentiel. Le chant et de belles mélodies. C’est assez aérien, mais aussi tellurique par moment. Il y a une atmosphère particulière, peut-être lié au lieu d’enregistrement de l’album (elle a été en résidence dans un monastère pour composer et écrire l’album!). Ceci étant Oui est un grand disque. Comme il n’y en a pas légion dans notre beau pays, ça vaut le coup d’en faire une critique, non? Les chansons alternent français et anglais pour ne pas avoir à choisir entre ces 2 langues. de toute façon les textes qu’ils soient ou non dans votre langue s’écoutent aussi par la diction et le “flow” particulier de Camille.
On “Ouï“, Camille is back to basics. Singing and wrinting good melodies. The whole songs are a litlle atmospheric as well as telluric sometimes. It’s certainly in relation with the place the LP was created (Camille was in a monastery during all the conception of the songs!). So Ouï is a major Album. There is not so much great new Lps that come out in our Country, it’s worth to talk about it, isn’t it? The songs are half fench, half english. Anyway, no matter what the language,the songs can be listened only to feel them.
Pour finir, j’ai vu que Camille était en tournée. Je vous mets les dates en lien. A mon avis ça vaut le coup live!

En effet, le duo de Brighton est de retour pour un 2e opus en juin. Ils viennent de sortir leur premier titre qui s’appelle Lightsout. Il est dans la lignée de ce qu’ils ont fait jusque là: bien remuant, bien arrangé, bien construit, bien tout court! Le plus c’est peut être ces choeurs qui viennent apporter un peu plus de relief à l’ensemble. Et ce son de basse. Rhhhhaaaa. Pour une fois qu’un duo se passe de guitare, ça me fait toujours autant plaisir.
Actually, the duet from Brighton is back to release a new album in June. They just have us their last single Lightsout. It’s the logical following of what they already did: moving, well constructed, well arranged and good in a few words. What’s new is maybe those choirs in the back which give more relief to the song. And that bass sound. Rhaaazz. Once a band doesn’t have some guitars makes me truly happy!
